Your Guide to the Trim Levels of the 2024 GMC Terrain

All kinds of drivers love small SUVs, and for good reason. They’re versatile, have plenty of interior space for people and cargo, and are both more affordable and easier to maneuver than midsize and full-size SUVs. Because they have so many different things to offer, many different kinds of people are interested in them.
This is good to know if you’re looking for a GMC Terrain for sale. In order to meet the needs of all of the drivers interested in it, the Terrain is available in a variety of trim levels, ranging from basic and affordable to rugged and off-road capable to downright luxurious. Here at Fox Valley Buick GMC, we want to make sure you understand all of your options so you can drive home in a vehicle that’s perfect for your needs. Today, we’re going to go through all of the trims of the 2024 Terrain and let you know what each one has to offer. With a variety of available features, stylistic touches, and price points, there’s sure to be something in this lineup that fits the bill.
Terrain SLE
The SLE may be the lowest rung on the trim ladder, but it still has a lot to offer. Even at its most basic, the Terrain is stylish inside and out, drives well, and comes standard with a long list of desirable features. All 2024 Terrain trims run on the same engine: a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. This gives you the power you need to drive confidently at highway speeds and pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission that delivers a smooth ride in a variety of situations. The SLE comes standard with front-wheel drive but can be had with all-wheel drive instead if you want the extra traction all-wheel drive provides.
GMC Pro Safety is also standard on all trims. This suite of driver assistance technology includes Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and IntelliBeam high beam headlights. Together, these features help you stay fully aware of your surroundings and work to prevent accidents so you can drive with confidence.
The Terrain’s base trim has plenty of extra touches that make your life as a driver easier. The capless fuel fill system helps to keep your hands clean at the gas station, the electronic parking brake is easy to deploy, even if you park on a steep hill, and keyless start means you can keep your key fob in your pocket or bag while you drive. Inside the cabin, you’ll be comfortable even on the longest of road trips, thanks to supportive bucket seats that can manually be adjusted four ways to provide just the right position. Rear-seat passengers will appreciate the standard rear air vents, and everyone will love the active noise cancellation technology that keeps things quiet so you can talk with your passengers or listen to audio entertainment. If you want to get that audio from your phone, you can easily do so with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which let you hook your compatible smartphone up to the Terrain’s system and control your apps through the infotainment interface.

Terrain SLT
Upgrading to the SLT gets you some extra comfort and convenience features designed to keep you and your passengers cozy and content. Up front, the four-way manually-adjustable seats are replaced with an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and six-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, both of which have power lumbar control and are heated for extra comfort on cold winter mornings. The steering wheel is also heated, along with the power-adjustable side view mirrors, which have integrated turn signal indicators. Instead of re-adjusting the driver’s seat position and the position of the side view mirrors every time you switch drivers, you can save two presets with the standard Memory Package, making it easy to share the wheel on road trips or with a partner at home.
There are plenty of other upgrades throughout the cabin. Dual-zone automatic climate control lets you and your front passenger each set your own ideal temperature to prevent arguments and discomfort when one person runs hot and the other runs cold. With the remote start feature, you can get the heat or AC going before you get to the car. An SD card reader gives you an additional choice for navigation since phones and internet connections aren’t always consistent. Ambient interior lighting lets you set the mood, and perforated leather-appointed seats provide a touch of elegance. For convenience, there’s a universal home remote, which can be synced with devices like garage door openers, home security systems, and more.
When it comes to cargo, you have multiple options. All trims of the Terrain can tow up to 1,500 lbs when properly equipped. With the SLT trim and up, you also have roof-mounted side rails for storing bikes, kayaks, Christmas trees, or whatever you need to transport on the roof. For interior storage, you can easily load up the back even when your hands are full because the SLT trim comes standard with a hands-free power programmable liftgate.
Terrain AT4
Rugged and ready for action, the AT4 trim comes standard with all-wheel drive for traction when you need it, from rainy days to dusty unpaved backroads. The AT4 also sports a front steel skid plate to protect underbody components on off-road excursions and sport terrain tires for a good grip on unpaved surfaces. The AT4 also has a traction select system with off-road mode, so you can get your settings just right to match your surroundings. The trim’s rugged capability is reflected in its unique interior design and exclusive exterior badging.
Instead of just featuring the regular GMC Pro Safety lineup, the AT4 comes standard with Pro Safety Plus. That means the AT4 has all of the following features, in addition to the ones you’ll find on lower trims:
- Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Rear Park Assist
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Safety Alert Seat
Terrain Denali
Last but certainly not least is the summit at the top of the trim list: the Terrain Denali. Just a glance at the outside lets you know that the Denali is a cut above the rest. Its exclusive styling includes 19-inch bright machined aluminum wheels with premium dark gray accents, body-color door handles with chrome surround, body-color lower trim, and a unique multidimensional grille design. Inside, you’ll find perforated leather-appointed seats with the Denali emblem. Don’t find the default aesthetic to your liking? You can make it your own inside and out with available options like wheels with an After Midnight finish or an interior decked out in either a Light Platinum and Dark Galvanized colorway or the alluring Jet Black.
Inside, you’ll find luxurious touches like a Bose premium audio system with seven speakers spread throughout the cabin so your music comes through crystal clear and a built-in navigation system that can give you directions either on the main touchscreen, on an eight-inch multicolor customizable driver information screen conveniently located behind the steering wheel, or on the head-up display that projects directly onto the lower windshield so you can keep your eyes on the road as you check which exit you need to take. There’s also a wireless charging pad, so you don’t have to clutter up the cabin with cords just to keep your phone’s battery full. Every ride will be nice and smooth, thanks to an exclusive premium suspension system that comes standard on the Denali and isn’t even an available option on lower trims.
While all of those features come standard on the top-tier trim, there are also some upgrades that can’t be had on the SLE, SLT, or AT4 but are available on the Denali. If you often have rear-seat passengers, you can opt for heated rear seats to keep them toasty in cold weather. Ventilated seats are available upfront, so you don’t have to get sweaty and uncomfortable while driving through the summer heat. While front and rear park assist come standard, giving you alerts if there are any objects in your way, the available Automatic Parking Assist makes parallel and perpendicular parking even easier, automatically steering the SUV for you while you brake and shift between gears.
No Matter Which Trim You Choose, You Can’t Go Wrong With the Terrain
Looking at all of these great options can feel overwhelming. Would you be better off with the off-road capability of the AT4 or the extra comfort and convenience of the Denali? And if the top-tier trims are out of your budget, is it better to stick with the SLE or spring for the SLT? Digging into these questions will help you figure out which trim is right for you. If you’re having trouble deciding, you can always swing by our dealership or give us a call, and we’ll be happy to help you narrow your options down. But there’s no need to be stressed because no matter what trim you choose, the 2024 GMC Terrain is a quality SUV that will get you where you need to go in comfort and style.
